New Orleans, LA Sarah DeBacher, July 2003
The handsome young leaders of the Lost Bayou Ramblers, brothers Louis and Andre Michot, had a picture-perfect Cajun childhood. They were reared in Louisiana's Bayou Country in a musical family that once toured internationally as the celebrated Cajun-revival group, Les Freres Michot. After branching out on their own, and adding several members to their singing, stomping, squeeze-boxing team, the brothers became the Lost Bayou Ramblers. A recent move from Lafayette, Louisiana, to New Orleans has meant broader exposure and a growing appreciation for these talented swamp siblings and their brand of bayou-inspired music. The band's play list draws from an extensive catalogue of traditional Cajun dancehall arrangements, complemented by an ever-growing repertoire of originals. Whether paying homage to early Cajun music, or expanding the horizons of the genre, their accordion and fiddle driven performances inevitably turn into swinging southern ho-downs, complete with real, live Cajuns keeping the beat. |
