LAFAYETTE - Smiles and smiles of local musicians nominated for the inaugural Zydeco/Cajun Grammy award category crowded into the A.C. Lounge at Grant Street Dancehall on Thursday evening to celebrate the moment. The Recording Academy's Memphis Chapter hosted the reception for the nominees for the 50th Grammy awards ceremony to be held on Feb. 10. Zydeco and Cajun music was provided by the nominees themselves.

Six bands out of seven nominated for the Grammy Award in the inaugural edition of the "Best Zydeco Or Cajun Music Album" category are from Louisiana. When there are more or less than five nominations in a category, it is the result of a tie...

Chris "Oscar" Courville, drummer with the Lost Bayou Ramblers, whose band's release "Live: a la Blue Moon" was also nominated, said he was taken aback. "I'm very surprised. We have a new studio album coming out that we worked on at Dockside Studio, and we're working really hard on it for next year," he said. "I could never have imagined that our live CD at the Blue Moon - although we had a great time making it - would be nominated." He said the nomination won't affect the way the band gets things done.
